The History
The Meaning
Aruloudhayam signifies the Dawning of Grace. Its purpose is to help people, irrespective of caste or creed, to come in touch with the Divine within. Waking to the Divine within, they will flower forth as individuals towards the fullness of human hood (towards the ‘New Man’). And whilst flowering forth in this way, they would play an enlightened role as members of their society to evolve a better society.
The Beginning
Aruloudhayam Ashram was founded by Rev. Fr. Dr. Joseph Jaswant Raj a Salesian Priest, who had been dreaming about creating an ‘Ashram.’ While he was in Sacred Heart Seminary at Poonamalle, he had a brain tumour, and he had been operated on three times at Ramachandra Hospital. Due to this, he lost use of both of his legs. But with the help and Grace of Mary Help of Christians, on 24th of May, 1999 he once again walked normally.
As he was staying in the Bishop’s house, under the care of Rt. Rev. Dr. Chinnappa sdb - Bishop of Vellore, for radiation at CMC Vellore, he spotted out A. Kattupadi to begin the Ashram. Thus the foundation stone of Aruloudhayam Ashram was laid on 8th September 1999. Since he had to undergo radiation treatment, Fr. George, then Parish Priest of this place helped him to complete the works.
On 19th February 2000 the Ashram was blessed by the above mentioned Bishop of Vellore and opened by Rev. Fr. Peter Kubis, close friend of Fr. Dr. Jaswant, from Germany along with his collaborators Rev. Fr. Jayaraj S.J, and Fr. Benny.
The Ambient
The Ashram consists of 15 acres of land surrounded by Hills which is closer to Jawadhu Hills and Amirthi forest. Anyone who comes here relishing the quiet, fresh, green, peaceful and unpolluted natural settings find the atmosphere elevating and expansive. Thus it reduces stress, boosts health benefits, controls your own thoughts, detachment, happiness and peace of mind, concentration, spontaneity and creativity and discovering the purpose of life. Religion or spirituality, Oneness is the goal. Divinity is within everyone and in everything.
The Service
From 2023 onwards it renders the service specifically for the Holistic Wellness of Priests and men Religious who suffer from the disease of Alcoholism.
